The problems are not limited in the slum areas- with the minimum wages of the families they have to choose between their necessities and child education. Under challenging conditions, People prefer not to send their children to school and force the children to earn and support their family. We understand that education is the only key to break the cycle of poverty and create a better future for children and their families. It was clear to us that we had to fill in the gap for needy children who wanted to go school and avail education. Therefore, we have started two programs Umeed – Nonformal education-for-children program which helps slum kids with primary education and Higher Education Scholarship Program which provides a carrier oriented sponsorship to the slum kids. By sponsoring these students, we ensure that genuinely deserving students don’t miss out the chance of getting out of the poverty.
We firmly believe that sponsoring a child helps a low-income family to overcome economic disadvantages. Therefore our Higher Education scholarship programme helps 11th and 12th class students to understand the value of education and how education can enlighten their future. We distribute assisting books to motivate the students through this program so they can attain high percentage in board exams and qualify for universities after school.
UDAAN – Education Scholarship program is to sponsor slum children in India to motivate the 12th class students to choose the right career. We take them to Education fairs, conduct counseling session on a regular basis, and organize a monthly meeting with experts from education industries. And our volunteers and interns teach them as per their skills at our 3 Slum centers.
You could be our Mentor
Our Child Mentor Programme is an initiative to connect directly with the kids. The mentor would be given the full responsibility of 1 kid having a poor socio-economic background. The volunteer will have to look after the education, health, and progress at school and social aspect of the child. She/he will have to dedicate a minimum of 3 hours a week towards his/her respective student.
